Do I have to pay this tax lien that is not mine?
Tuesday, February 16th, 2010I was married recently and my husband owes the IRS back taxes for which he has already made payment arrangements. I am closing on the sale of my home in 2 weeks and the title company states that this obligation now has to be paid in full. The house is in my name only. He and I have both talked to the IRS and they told us that I am not responsible. I went to the Register of Deeds and they could not find a lien against my property in their records. We live in the state of Wisconsin. Where is the title company coming up with this information?
