Legal Investments Where The IRS Cannot See?

Friday, March 12th, 2010

I am handicapped and on a disability pension. I do not wish to be on this forever as I hate depending on the gov for funds. So i’d like to invest now since i am young but as it turns out I am not allowed to own more than 2k of any investments or they cut me.. which is hardly a strong foundation to survive on the profits of. =(

I’ve been studying different markets; stocks, realestate, bonds, tax liens but it seems the IRS would always know what i’m doing even if i didn’t report. And I dont really want to do anything illegal but I also do not want them in my business if i can invest in territory that they have no control over.

So i thought that they couldn’t possibly watch over everything..

Yes, I know i’m really suppose to report every little dime I earn from anything and everything, from any location but I look at it as a don’t-ask-don’t-tell.

The only thing i can think of is maybe some stock markets in other places of the world have markets in countries that dont report?

4options I know I can do… and is easy

CD at about 4-5%

Money Market 4-5%

Savings- not a investment

Bonds(bank)- no not enough return

Tax Liens Certificates- I am looking into trying this but first I have to research it and study it more.

Real estate- don’t have the assets and money to rent a house out.

Stocks- Not enough info and dont know anybody to make educated decision

Real Estate Investment Trusts- maybe, got to look into that better

what should I invest in?

if you know some good info of how you buy tax Lien Certificates and you have a real good website to see the one’s in any area or just have a few good tips for me that would be great.

thankyou

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

What are some ideas for investing if one has around K in cash today. Moderate risk tolerance - don’t want to loose it all. Time horizon of 3-5 years.

Rental income properties?
Tax liens?
Buying a franchise?
Local mom & pop business?
Stocks? Bonds?

Further clarification: I was hoping for ideas that don’t have anything to do with banks, brokerages houses etc.. Maybe more of business or trade or hands-on value addition and not necessarily hands-off investment.

Investment Strategies for a College Graduate.?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

I am graduating college with no debt and will probably be working at a large defense company making a good starting salary. My question is about investing my hard earned money. Which way should I go, get into the market try to research a mutual fund that has low fees and is emphasizing on buying undervalued stocks in the long term or try to get into a foreclosure that isn’t trashed in a decent neighborhood and try to fix it up a little. I would like to do both. I am eligible for a VA loan that requires little down and locks in lower fixed rates, but I think there is some stipulation with insurance, but I am not looking for this to be a long term house. I will likely sell it once the market rebounds. I am also going to try to start a company on the weekends that researches viable tax liens. Any advise would be appreciated.
