Can I be on the deed and not the mortgage for tax purposes?

Posted by taxliens

We live in Mi. My husband and I are unable to get a mortgage on our own and my dad is putting a house in his name as an investment property but we would be making the payments through him. Could we put my name on the deed but not the mortgage so that we wouldn’t have to pay non-homestead taxes?
We will not be able to qualify for any mortgage.

Not in this day and age. Have you and your husband tried to qualify for an FHA loan? The standards are much lower because the government guarantees the loan. I just got one in May and my interest rate is only 5%.
